Siapa yang disini jatah cuti tahunannya masih banyak? Atau jangan-jangan ada yang sudah minus alias ‘ngutang’ nih jatah cutinya karena sering digunakan. Nah kira-kira kenapa ya setiap perusahaan di dunia wajib memberikan hak cuti kepada karyawannya.
Cuti tahunan merupakan kesempatan penting bagi karyawan untuk istirahat sejenak dari tempat kerja dan menghabiskan lebih banyak waktu bersama keluarga. Setiap negara memiliki aturan yang berbeda-beda terkait jumlah cuti tahunan. Namun pada umumnya setiap negara memiliki minimum cuti tahunan yang terdiri dari hari libur berbayar dan hari libur nasional. Sebagai contoh, negara Indonesia memberikan 12 hari untuk hari libur berbayar dan 15 hari untuk hari libur nasional per tahunnya sehingga cuti per tahun berjumlah 27 hari, Australia memberikan 20 hari untuk hari libur berbayar dan 10 hari untuk hari libur nasional per tahunnya sehingga cuti per tahun berjumlah 30 hari, rata-rata negara-negara di Eropa memberikan minimal 20-30 hari untuk hari libur berbayar diluar hari libur nasional (dengan Perancis paling banyak memberikan jumlah cuti tahunan dan Ireland paling sedikit memberikan jumlah cuti tahunan), sedangkan di Amerika tidak ada persyaratan nasional untuk hari libur berbayar atau paid sick days sehingga cuti ditentukan oleh masing-masing perusahaan. Menurut, Biro Statistik Tenaga Kerja Amerika melaporkan bahwa 76% pekerja Amerika yang memiliki paid time off (PTO)/ hak untuk cuti hanya 5-10 hari per tahun.
Menurut salah satu studi yang dilakukan, cuti tahunan penting bagi kesehatan dan kesejahteraan karyawan. Dari sisi organisasi, mungkin banyak yang berpikir bahwa dengan tidak cuti, karyawannya dapat menyelesaikan lebih banyak pekerjaan dan menjadi lebih produktif. Kenyataannya malah sebaliknya, tidak mengambil cuti akan menyebabkan stress dan burnout yang menurunkan produktivitas. Dengan mengambil cuti tahunan membuat karyawan lebih ‘fresh’ dan bahagia, meningkatan mood, serta seimbang work-lifenya sehingga akan menjadi lebih termotivasi dan produktif lagi. Selain itu, menurut studi yang dilakukan oleh American Psychology Associaton, dengan cuti akan membantu mengurangi stress karena sejenak kita ‘meng-istirahat-kan’ diri dari tugas-tugas atau lingkungan pekerjaan yang secara tidak sadar menyebabkan perasaan stres dan kecemasan. Dimana ini dapat membantu kesehatan fisik dan mental termasuk mengurangi dampak stres seperti masalah pada perut, sakit kepala, atau kesulitan dalam berkonsentrasi, yang akan berpengaruh pada berkurangnya izin sakit karyawan.
Dengan mengetahui pentingnya menggunakan hak cuti tahunan, sudah sepatutnya organisasi memberikan kemudahan bagi karyawannya untuk cuti. Namun faktanya, rata-rata karyawan di Inggris hanya menggunakan 62% dari hak cuti tahunan mereka. Begitu juga di Jepang hanya 51,1% yang menggunakan hak cutinya. Ternyata banyak juga karyawan yang tidak menggunakan hak cutinya yang disebabkan oleh beberapa alasan seperti terlalu sibuk, beban pekerjaan yang tinggi, takut tertinggal dalam pekerjaannya, keinginan untuk naik gaji, ‘terlalu malu’ untuk meminta cuti, ingin terlihat memiliki kemauan untuk bekerja ekstra, serta tidak mempercayai orang lain untuk melakukan pekerjaannya. Padahal istirahat sejenak dari pekerjaan akan membuat seseorang kembali fokus dan mengembalikan energi yang berujung pada tercipatanya budaya kerja yang baik, employee engagement, dan produktivitas.
Munculnya fenomena ‘leaveism’ (seorang karyawan menggunakan cuti tahunan mereka untuk menyelesaikan pekerjaan) telah menjadi lebih umum sekarang ini. Banyak yang menganggap istirahat dari pekerjaan tidak terlalu penting, padahal time-out sejenak memegang peranan penting sehingga seorang karyawan tidak berujung menjadi burnout. Burnout ditandai dengan kelelahan emosional, penurunan kinerja, pengambilan keputusan yang buruk, tingkat kesalahan yang lebih tinggi, dan cenderung kurangnya empati terhadap rekan kerja. Suatu penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa manfaat jangka pendek yang dicapai dari kerja yang berlebihan dan penundaan cuti tahunan, akan menyebabkan efek jangka panjang dari hilangnya produktivitas, kesalahan dalam bekerja, dan karir yang singkat.
